Rihanna + Balmain Paris Spring 2014

Words by Kate Wotherspoon
Photography by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin
Styling by Mel Ottenberg
Creative Direction by Atelier Franck Durand

Rihanna + Balmain Paris… do I even need to say more? Rocking 90s inspired amazingness, Rihanna steals the show and is captured by high fashion photography duo, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Styled by Mel Ottenberg with the infamous creative direction from Atelier Franck Durand this shoot was destined for greatness. Honestly, could there be anymore superstars involved?

I think I will be adding a leather jumpsuit and a herringbone suit to my wardrobe any day now… And her hair? Ughh… perfection!  Don’t worry about drooling all over your keyboard or Ipad, you wouldn’t be the first when it comes to this campaign. XO

Gatsby Got Grooves

Words by Kate Wotherspoon

A little party never killed nobody and sassy music is a necessity! This post is about The Great Gatsby yes, but I’m not going to focus on the extraordinary visual splendor it offered fashion and production wise, I’m here to promote it’s groundbreaking soundtrack! I was dancing in my seat last Friday night watching this incredible film in theater.  With songs by Jay Z, The XX, Goyte, Lana Del Ray, will.i.am, Kanye West, Fergie, Florence & the Machine and more, my imagination was filling with up with endless dance routines and projects to create to hopefully match each song’s uniqueness and brilliance. I have to commend the outstanding dancers and choreographers for this film – unbelievably executed and wonderfully entertaining.

It makes you wonder… If you were to live in any other decade, which would it be? My answer? The roaring 1920s for it’s dancing, music, the beginning of women’s rights and undoubtedly, the pearls, the drop-waist dresses, cute bob hairstyles and T-straps shoes!

Just so you know... That headpiece she is wearing costs $220,000 from Tiffany & Co. No big deal...

Just so you know… That headpiece she is wearing costs $220,000 from Tiffany & Co. No big deal…

Here are some of my fave hits from The Great Gatsby soundtrackPlease enjoy responsibly. (And by responsibly I mean, not dancing around so hard in a small space you knock everything around you down and end up on the floor with bruises and broken lamps & vases…)

“Together” – The XX

“A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” – Fergie, Q-Tip & GoonRock

“Over the Love” – Florence & the Machine

“No Church in the Wild” – Kanye West & Jay Z (Ft. FrankOcean)

What a sexy man!

What a sexy man!

Leo and I thank you for visiting. Now that you have some serious “tuneage”, grab a lover and Charleston your way all through the night ;) Cheers!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Carlo Atienza is a creative genius!  I was lucky enough to be a part of his latest project and had an incredible time working with him, Eighties Union and CJ Damaso. This video is inspired by a beautiful Linkin Park cover of “In the End” by Carissa Rae and Michael Alvarado and by showcasing a love story through a split screen at different times of day.

I hope you enjoy the video and please suscribe to Carlo’s youtube channel and check out the other hype videos by Eighties Union.  Below are a few screen shots and pictures taken on set… Enjoy. xx

Style Feature || Farhad Younus

Words & Photos by Kate Wotherspoon

This guy, is one hell of a good dresser… I worked with him at Holt Renfrew and everyday his outfits would never disappoint.  From head to toe and handkerchief to showy socks, his look is sophisticatedly on trend and a perfect mix of media.  He works for Tom Ford and is a family guy with two sons who are quickly catching on to the definition of style.  He plans to start his own label on the side catering to urban women who will feel sexy and powerful wearing his designs and you can always catch him walking with a certain je ne sais quoi… #swag

We planned for the style feature numerous times but it never panned out until one day I was sitting in Starbucks and he joined me for break.  It was one of my last shifts and we were running out of time and decided we mineswell “get’er done now or never” (That’s obviously what I spat out, not him)… So, I borrowed a pencil from the barista and scribbled his thoughts, preferences and inspirations down on an Americano stained napkin and snapped some street shots with my handy dandy iphone!  Check out the photos and interview below. xx

Stupid || Erica Sobol

Perfomed by Leah Moyer & Choreography by Erica Sobol.

Incredibly powerful. (I think I held my breathe the entire time watching this.)

Erica Sobol’s choreography is limitless and Leah Moyer’s carry-through is beyond anything I’ve ever seen before. She definitely has something very, very rare and honest about her talent.  The parallel and instant switch between the girl in love and the one full of crazy, stupid love and angst is captivating. Please watch and re-blog, re-post to spread this brilliant work of art. Thank you & Enjoy. x

My Type | Men with Style

Photos by Tommy Ton
Words by Kate Wotherspoon

If this is what love feels like, I must book my ticket to Milan and London this second and marry these men. I’ve obviously been in Canada way too long. Why you ask? Please see pictures below. All men are dressed to impress and that doesn’t mean they’re all wearing a 3 piece suit and tie, I’m talking “swag casual” for days. Check it male race, this is how you dress for an art gallery opening, breakdance battle, dinner with friends and of course the menswear shows. #HOT #LEGGO #TRENDY Thank you Tommy Ton for once again capturing the best shots off the catwalk and giving me hope to find a stylish man to hold hands with.

Man arm party? Not mad at it.

So simple, so HOT.

Suspenders can look so on point when done right. (oh wow that rhymes!)

I would like to say I own this blazer.

Hi, my name is Kate – Let’s date?

Never seen someone pull of a full orange suit in my life. You know you got swag when you can pull this one off.

So matchy, but I like it.

Thanks to Tommy Ton from http://www.style.com for the brilliant photography and to all the European men.

Taken by Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist in Milan. I had to throw this one in here… Fitting I think, considering this was my desktop wallpaper for forever. http://www.thesartorialist.com
