Streets of Fashion Month||Tommy Ton

Tommy Ton is simply spectacular, and I find street photography to be so fascinating. Specifically during fashion weeks. Every one is just ready to take chances and that’s what style is all about.  Just going for it no matter what and wearing what you feel like. Yes, fashion week is where everyone finds out what the next trend is, but on the street, there’s a conglomerate of trends and decades of fashion and style being tossed about. It’s not about one look or one designer, it’s about the power of choice and individuality among the chaos.

Here are my favorite looks from Fashion Month, all captured by Tommy Ton. <3

A Jacket Story

Let’s be honest here…fall is by far the best season for fashion. The more layering the better and a great statement jacket keeps us on trend while staying warm and cozy. Whether you’re a fan of the classic parka or motorcycle jacket, having a variety on hand keeps your winter wardrobe interesting.  For one, if you’re chilled and don’t get a chance to show off your bangin outfit it’s all the more important to showcase the outerwear.  Don’t be afraid to layer a leather vest on top of your pea coat or throw your jacket over your shoulders for a super chic look! Check out key styles below!

Chaos to Couture

Words by Kate Wotherspoon
Photos by

I wish I could tell you I attended the Met Gala and wore Vivienne Westwood, but then I would be a liar, liar with my Vivienne on fire! We wouldn’t want that even though it might be categorized as Punk Couture which would ultimately work for this post…

Punk is about not caring what others think and ultimately expressing yourself, which in the same breath is the same as personal style. I found some looks from the red carpet to be a little too “try-hard” and others way too “pretty in pink”. In another sense though, with punk and couture at par, anything goes! My top two looks were Sarah Jessica Parker in custom Giles and a Philip Treacy headpiece and Christina Ricci in Vivienne Westwood. I’m surprised more people didn’t cover themselves in Vivienne Westwood since she really brought the chaos to couture, but again, punk isn’t entirely plaid, studs and mohawks, it’s about putting ones personality at the forefront.

My Type | Men with Style

If this is what love feels like, I must book my ticket to Milan and London this second and marry these men. I’ve obviously been in Canada way too long. Why you ask? Please see pictures below. All men are dressed to impress and that doesn’t mean they’re all wearing a 3 piece suit and tie, I’m talking “swag casual” for days. Check it male race, this is how you dress for an art gallery opening, breakdance battle, dinner with friends and of course the menswear shows. #HOT #LEGGO #TRENDY Thank you Tommy Ton for once again capturing the best shots off the catwalk and giving me hope to find a stylish man to hold hands with.

Man arm party? Not mad at it.

So simple, so HOT.

Suspenders can look so on point when done right. (oh wow that rhymes!)

I would like to say I own this blazer.

Hi, my name is Kate – Let’s date?

Never seen someone pull of a full orange suit in my life. You know you got swag when you can pull this one off.

So matchy, but I like it.

Thanks to Tommy Ton from for the brilliant photography and to all the European men.

When In Doubt…Wear A Jewelry Party

Dannijo SS12

No matter where you’re headed, you can never go wrong with an arm, hand or necklace party. I am instantly drawn to anything shiny, enjoy wearing numerous rings, and layer necklace upon necklace – just better that way. It also helps make your outfit completely  unique no matter what the occasion.  I’ve chosen some of my favorites from Dannijo and Delfina Dellatrez. They’re all must-haves!

Dannijo Bailey Necklace

Mr Dannijo Mona Lisa Ring (This is so cool, I love a little dangle on a ring – so unexpected)

Dannijo Levi Necklace

Delfina Delettrez

This would look great paired with some jeans (torn or clean) and a simple white T.  At the same time, you could totally rock it with a sexy black or cream sheath dress and a gold skull statement ring. Living!

There’s way more to it than keeping warm…

I’ve decided I need a (i.e a dozen) jackets and coats to wear as soon as possible. Summer is on it’s way but, Vancouver’s weather has been so crazy lately, I doubt summer will even come. I’ve also grown very tired of my parkas and over-sized michellin man coats. I would just love to add the following outerwear pieces (shown below) to my already bursting closet… Must make space, must make space, must sell clothes…..Wait no… Must make space…It’s really quite hard to say bye to your clothes…. But that’s another day. Today, it’s all about showcasing beautiful cuts of fabric that make the most adoring jackets.

I don’t even want to discuss how great this is…leaves me speechless.

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012
This colour = heaven in a trench!

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012
I could totally see this shirt jacket worn with a long sleeve bright cable knit sweater and clean jeans with a chain belt to cinch at waist.

Thank you for most of these images and Tommy Ton for always snapping the best street shots.

Badass Factor

I look at Balmain and think punk and couture (to an extent obviously). I know that may seem ridiculous to many, but the structured tailoring and boxy jackets and vests are embellished with the most exquisite designs and materials. I would feel so badass wearing a Balmain jacket and yet at the same time it carries a classic Chanel vibe to it. Let’s just be honest, you can’t go wrong with Balmain. Olivier Rousteing is taking the house to the next level and I’m loving the direction it’s going. Check out my favs from the Fall Winter 2012 show in Paris, March 1st.

Faves from New York Fashion Week 2012

Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2012
Do I even have to say anything? So cute and trendy on every level.

Burberry Prorsum Winter 2012
Peplums are huge for fall. I like. The mix in prints and layering of different greens and yellows is quite darling.

Rag & Bone Fall Winter 2012
I am loving the blanket coat. So versatile and is sure to keep you warm.

Jason Wu Fall Winter 2012
The dark green, fur, studded belt cinching at the waist and gloves just throws me over the edge.

DSquared2 Fall Winter 2012
The colour blocking in this outfit definitely resonates last falls’ veggie colour flare. The yellow and purple are a perfect contrast and I am loving the distinct textures too. (I need to get a satchel in a bright colour…)

DSquared2 Fall Winter 2012
Definitely seeing a lot of cropped pants for fall and this means I no longer have to hem my jeans… being that I am 5’2″ and all ha ha.

DSquared2 Fall Winter 2012

Marchesa Fall Winter 2012
She looks like an Oscar! Drop.Dead.Gorgeous.
