Upgraded Tuesdays || Parris Goebel

Parris upgrades any day – damn’t she’s otherworldly! This video is from 2012, and the precision and musicality blows my mind! By the way it’s real time not sped up. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you reach 2:30 time in the video. Enjoy ;) xx
P.S Let’s not even touch the styling in this video. Too on point for words.

Streets of Fashion Month||Tommy Ton

18_05_Tommy-Ton-Spring-2015-RTW

Tommy Ton is simply spectacular, and I find street photography to be so fascinating. Specifically during fashion weeks. Every one is just ready to take chances and that’s what style is all about.  Just going for it no matter what and wearing what you feel like. Yes, fashion week is where everyone finds out what the next trend is, but on the street, there’s a conglomerate of trends and decades of fashion and style being tossed about. It’s not about one look or one designer, it’s about the power of choice and individuality among the chaos.

Here are my favorite looks from Fashion Month, all captured by Tommy Ton. <3

Rihanna + Balmain Paris Spring 2014

RIHANNA-4

Rihanna + Balmain Paris… do I even need to say more? Rocking 90s inspired amazingness, Rihanna steals the show and is captured by high fashion photography duo, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Styled by Mel Ottenberg with the infamous creative direction from Atelier Franck Durand this shoot was destined for greatness. Honestly, could there be anymore superstars involved?

I think I will be adding a leather jumpsuit and a herringbone suit to my wardrobe any day now… And her hair? Ughh… perfection!  Don’t worry about drooling all over your keyboard or Ipad, you wouldn’t be the first when it comes to this campaign. XO

Smoke

A local Calgary dancer and close friend of mine, Barbara England, showed me Smoke last night and we watched in silence with intercepting ahh’s and wow’s in between. I have never seen a more creatively filmed dance video to this date and this goes back to 1995! Mats Ek’s choreography depicts the relationship between a man and woman and the smoke seen throughout can be expressed as their communication between one another, or the life, love and death that surrounds each one of us and how those three factors become a forefront when one person becomes involved with another.

Our favorites were Smoke 1/3 and Smoke 3/3 and it’s hard to deny that Arvo Part’s music in accordance with the dancing won’t move you to tears, or at least for Barb and myself… We discussed how each movement was meant to be there and in a way the dance wouldn’t have made sense if it wasn’t for those certain and almost improvisational & pedestrian moments. There’s a very thin line between a choreographed movement and what “step” belongs there without question. Very few can master that and Sylvie Guillem and Niklas Ek’s execution is beyond me. I can’t even begin to assume what will happen after each move and even the simplicity of the props involved with the choreography surrounding each piece blows my mind… Mats Ek’s is seriously genius and advanced for his time. I have not seen a video out there that can compare to Smoke. Enjoy. xo

This fall has been packed full of activities! Moving cities, changing paces and doing lots of traveling with my family to all parts of the globe. I’ll be back in my hometown Calgary mid October and will be able to post the many style features I have lined up and many posts on how stylish Europe is (a definite given of course)! But, until then you can follow me on twitter to see daily instagram pics! (instagram: keightw)

My Type | Men with Style

Photos by Tommy Ton
Words by Kate Wotherspoon

If this is what love feels like, I must book my ticket to Milan and London this second and marry these men. I’ve obviously been in Canada way too long. Why you ask? Please see pictures below. All men are dressed to impress and that doesn’t mean they’re all wearing a 3 piece suit and tie, I’m talking “swag casual” for days. Check it male race, this is how you dress for an art gallery opening, breakdance battle, dinner with friends and of course the menswear shows. #HOT #LEGGO #TRENDY Thank you Tommy Ton for once again capturing the best shots off the catwalk and giving me hope to find a stylish man to hold hands with.

Perfect.

Man arm party? Not mad at it.

So simple, so HOT.

Suspenders can look so on point when done right. (oh wow that rhymes!)

I would like to say I own this blazer.

Hi, my name is Kate – Let’s date?

Never seen someone pull of a full orange suit in my life. You know you got swag when you can pull this one off.

So matchy, but I like it.

Thanks to Tommy Ton from http://www.style.com for the brilliant photography and to all the European men.

Taken by Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist in Milan. I had to throw this one in here… Fitting I think, considering this was my desktop wallpaper for forever. http://www.thesartorialist.com

Badass Factor

I look at Balmain and think punk and couture (to an extent obviously). I know that may seem ridiculous to many, but the structured tailoring and boxy jackets and vests are embellished with the most exquisite designs and materials. I would feel so badass wearing a Balmain jacket and yet at the same time it carries a classic Chanel vibe to it. Let’s just be honest, you can’t go wrong with Balmain. Olivier Rousteing is taking the house to the next level and I’m loving the direction it’s going. Check out my favs from the Fall Winter 2012 show in Paris, March 1st.
